I had the pleasure to be introduced to the sweet sounding Ocean Bre Taylor this week by Burn Unit Records of Durham, NC. Yes, the same Burn Unit Records who gave us the hot tracks from MerCee. "Pick & Choose" is the name of her first single. I don't know how or where Burn Unit is locating this talent, but they are definitely on a roll!
Ocean Bre Taylor and MerCee

Well, to review Ms. Taylor's cut, I had to pull out my all star new school R&B playlist which includes the sounds of Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Fantasia, Rihanna, etc. You get the picture. I mixed in the cut from Ocean Bre Taylor, "Pick & Choose," and put the playlist on random. "Pick & Choose" came on between a track by Ashanti and Kelly Roland and guess what, I actually like "Pick & Choose" better than the Ashanti and Kelly cuts!

I really like Ocean Bre because she has potential. She reminds me of a Keyshia Cole and with the right amount of push from Burn Unit Records and drive from Ocean Bre, she can achieve success. She has the look to go along with the sound to really wreck shop in R&B. The content and sound of "Pick & Choose" is destined to have the same type of success with the young hood princes like Keyshia Cole's music does. Taylor is not as hard or "ghetto" as Keyshia Cole but I can easily fit her between Cole and Rihanna as far as who her music is going to appeal to.

I really wrestled with this one and I am going to give Ocean Bre Taylor 3.5 out of 5 CDs for "Pick & Choose."

I loved the lyrics, the vocals were great and the beats were slammin. Baby girl you're on your way. Just stay focused on your goals and watch out for the haters as you become more and more successful.
