Catchy, moody, and relatable, The All-American Rejects incorporate all the qualities of classic emo music into their newest album, with a dash of creativity and talent for good measure. Though the style would be an epic failure for anyone looking to analyze a work of musical genius, or accompany the brooding thoughts of a philosophical mind, it is perfect for a summer cruise around the city, upbeat music for a party, or singing loudly in the shower when no one else can hear.

Released December 18, 2008 The greatest addition to the CD in terms of innovation is the use of electronic elements with keyboard and violin. These ethereal qualities accompany the typical 4/4 rhythm on Real World, “Breakin'” and “As the Wind Blows”. The title track, “When the World Comes Down (Mona Lisa)”, is an acoustic track with an intro reminiscent of Green Day's “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” The song continues with a simple but nostalgic tune, accented by the melodramatic lyrics of a love-struck vocalist.

“Breakin'” combines a hopeful tone with broken-hearted lyrics. As break-up songs go, it is relatively comforting and catchy. “Another Heart Calls” is yet another break-up song with a more depressive, yet beautiful tone. This song showcases a female vocalist, and the duet highlights the positive qualities of both voices. The song is written like the story the lyrics illustrate, beginning quiet and somber with the female voice, and building slowly and dramatically to the intense rhythm of a tom, climaxing as the voices rise and are joined by the bass and guitar, then fade away.

The album concludes with a symphonic hidden track, reaffirming the creative mind of the musicians. Though two of the tracks are titled with mild profanities, this is a deceptive first impression of a particularly clean album. The band displays their ability to grow progressively since their musical beginnings, in both talent and style. Any music consumer seeking a light-hearted style will be satisfied by the most recent endeavor of The All-American Rejects.
