BU ... Burn Unit Records for those who don't already know, is at it again with MerCee Low ... this time with "Tell Me The Truth," and upbeat radio track. MerCee is distancing himself from all the other new artists with the versatility he possesses AND displays. Many artists either lack versatility or are afraid to show versatility thinking it will hurt record sales. MerCee won't have that problem!
The first thing that hit me up side my head was the banging beat laid down for the track. Boss-Smit just doesn't believe in playing around with the beats! And if you give MerCee Low a banging beat, guess what, the boy knows what to do with it! MerCee was hardcore on the last release, No Joke, hard lyrics laced on top of a slow, battle rap type beat. Well, MerCee Low flexed in a totally different way on "Tell Me The Truth" ... upbeat beat, sped up flow, playful lyrics, catchy hook, club-like feel.
With similes and metaphors like
"I wanna feel on you like a string guitar" or
"clean as a Bishop on Easter Sunday (Now that is CLEAN!)" or
"break records like Phelps" or
"... have u right by the end of the night ... baby it's easier than ridin a bike ..."
you know the man has lyrical skills!
He hits you with similes and metaphors that keep you saying "dayum" after each and every one of them he drops. This type of intellect is missing in much of today's rap but MerCee keeps his lyrical 9mm cocked and loaded and he is not afraid to fire it!
MerCee Low is set to release his album, "The Relapse," in late spring of 2009. I know it will be in my collection receiving much rotation!
yo this is crazy. why are these dudes not on def jams or some big ass label? you know some bu/??? type [censored] these dudes are hotter than any thing i heard in like 10 years. real music, real rap. its crazy my dude
I'm feelin 'Tell Me The Truth" Mercee is hot and the beats make you really appreciate the real things. I'm liking this Burn Unit Camp they real and they on fire!!!Keep doing whatcha do don't get caught up on what everybody else is doing stay REAL.
One point I did not mention about MerCee and the tracks I have review thus far, none of them sound the same! All the tracks will be on the same album, but they do not sound the same. You ever get that feeling where you heard one song from an artist and you have pretty much heard the entire album? Well, not with MerCee! I am glad we had the pleasure of reviewing his work here @ QuantumCritics.com
