Page 1 of 10 In the rush to create the next MySpace or the next Facebook, many people have created social networking sites in hopes the sites will become hot commodities they can sell for millions. So which platform is best for you to start your new social networking site?
You can enter into the game as a coder and write a platform from scratch (probably the best way to go) or you can use prebuilt software and get up and running in a few weeks, maybe even a few days. So what is the best Social Networking software currently available? Considering you are a slightly above average person when it comes to technology and writing code, writing a social networking platform from scratch, although probably the best thing to do, is not economical and not a wise use of your time. The next best solution is to use a prepackaged solution. This review is going to give you an overview of some of the more popular solutions to help you decide which approach is better for you. The focus of this review will be on Boonex's Dolphin 6.0, PHPFox 1.6, Joomla 1.0.15, Drupal 5.15, Ning, and Kickapps. Hopefully the review will help you save time, energy, hair, and money when deciding which software to use for your social networking and community web sites.

Well I am a coder so got my answer
Here is the link: http://www.redesigns.org/web-builder
i like many read around before purchasing. in short this is what i will say. if you want to create a script then honestly do it yourself or go with elgg. its support from the community is amazing. on dolphin adn phpfox which i bought both you will regret it. phpfox support is shocking they will not even tell you how to press a button on their admin cpanel they designed saying its out of support policy and their forums are even worse. you will get smart answers from people but not an answer to the question you want. so they will say things like " i dont have that problem" and that is it. no response about the problem you have. its like going to a doctor and saying your arm hurts and he says well i dont have that problem so beat it. honestly between the 2 phpfox and dolphin support is the same, extremely poor. elgg is alot more basic to begin with but the community is so helpful. i have decided for the moment to forget about it altogether and look at writing my own or customising elgg.
They listen to their customer. Just contact them. They're developing new features based on what the community vote for. If you dont vote then you cant say they didnt listen. I will vote.
I think phpFOX is cheaper than SocialENgine. I bought phpFOX because they are cheaper.
