Michael Vick won the Ed Block Courage Award, an award given by NFL players to their teammates who exemplifycommitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. This is great for Vick who is making his return to the society and the NFL after an 18 month jail sentence.
I am truly amazed at the backlash this morning on sports talk radio in regards to Vick winning this award. I was really disturbed by a marine who wanted to compare Vick's courage to a marine who is in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting. Ok, can we please stop comparing any and everything to what the people in the armed forces are doing so we can attempt to belittle what people are accomplishing outside the military? Vick's courage award is just as inspiring as any courage award military personnel can receive. Vick has earned the award by doing his job, just as military personnel do. The callers to the shows this morning are still mad at Michael Vick, unwilling to forgive him for killing "innocent animals with no say in the matter" as the callers like to say. Hmmmm, our marine buddy who called in is doing the same thing! How many innocent people in Iraq or Afghanistan have been killed by US Armed Forces who could be and should be considered "innocent people with no say in the matter?"
America and its morals are drifting by the wayside more and more every day. The US military and its leaders can do no wrong, Michael Vick does wrong even when he has done nothing but his job. America is supposed to be the land of 2nd chances, but it appears a lot of America is, for lack of a better word, ignorant when it comes to matters such as Vick and his 2nd chance and him making the most of that 2nd chance. I am not a Mike Vick fan by any stretch of the imagination, and I think he is not a good NFL quarterback, however, Michael Vick has done everything asked of him since his release from prison.
I give the Philadelphia Eagles credit for having the courage to bring Michael Vick in for his second chance at the NFL. I give Michael Vick's teammates for having the courage to vote him as the person deserving the award. And most of all, I give Michael Vick credit for having the courage to accept the award. Imagine what he has gone through with all the people who literally HATE his guts and show up at his events just to spray negative comments at him. He brought it upon himself and he is dealing with it as not many of us could.
Grow up America and stop being such big hypocrites in this situation! |

The only reason he's doing everything asked of him is because it was court-mandated and he will go back to jail if he doesn't complete his community service.
