Insensitivity Towards Muslims E-mail

The imputation that Barak Obama is a Muslim has been widely described as a smear campaign against the presidential candidate. I strongly feel that the use of the word smear in this matter is disrespectful to Muslims, implying as it does, that being a Muslim is discreditable. It is true, of course, that the presidential candidate is expected to clarify the situation regarding his beliefs, and Obama has done that. It is also true that Muslim extremists have earned themselves a bad name in recent years. That still does not make it right for politicians and the media to disparage the religion by their use of the word, smear. It is particularly disconcerting that a high-ranking politician like Hilary Clinton also used the term smear campaign when talking about assertions of Obama being a Muslim. It displayed amazing lack of sensitivity and tact on her part.

It is a shame that they are trying to beat Obama down at the expense of degrading the Islamic faith. They are \"smearing\" the wrong thing here and they do not even realize it. I hope it backfires on them!
