Katherine Ann Olson, a 24 year old Minnesota woman was killed by a 19 year old man after she answered a babysitting ad on craigslist. Users of the popular site know craigslist brags constantly about no spam and no fraud on their site. One would have to question those claims as deceipt and death are about to be tied to the site.
craigslist had a spokesman show up on CBS to discuss the case. The bozo had the nerve to say "A spokesman for Craigslist said if a link is confirmed, it would be the
first murder ever tied to Craigslist in its 12-year existence and over
450 million classified ads."
Can you believe that? His demeanor would lead you to believe craigslist is still an industry leader because they have had only 1 death tied to their site. H E L L O!!! One death is one death way too many craigslist! Get your act together, get you heads out of the clouds, and please send better spokespeople than the clown who showed up on the Today show.
craigslist should go down for false bragging/advertising. The site is full of fraud and scams. The setup is horrible because the people completing a lot of the transactions initiated from craigslist complete them in person. You don't know who is on the other end of the transaction and bad things like the death of Katherine Ann Olson are bound to keep happening. eBay and other online shopping sites have their fair share of fraud, but it is mostly electronic fraud. Very few transactions are handled face to face and is therefore muc, much, much safer physically than craigslist. I'll be glad when someone blows the whistle on craigslist and the other craiglist-like sites.
