Free healthcare is on the minds of many nowadays. We hear how free healthcare works so well in places like Canada and Germany. Would free healthcare work in the US?

The short answer … NO! Free healthcare will NEVER be an option in America. There are just too many obstacles that stand in the way for free healthcare in the United States.

One reason free healthcare will not work is because there would be massive healthcare industry infrastructure changes that must be made. The largest infrastructure change would be the health insurance companies. Why would we still need them around if everyone has free health care? We would not have to purchase their overpriced plans and pay ridiculous deductibles and copays for their policies.

Not only would the insurance providers take a major hit, but drug makers would be hit pretty hard as well. They would not be able to sell their overpriced drugs and would have to drop their prices to prices close to those found on Canadian internet sites. Free healthcare and reduced drug prices equals reduced profit for the drug makers. Reduced profit is not a phrase an American company wants to hear.

One would have to think medical doctor’s salaries would decrease since we would have many, many more doctors if healthcare were free. Imagine if everyone is entitled to major surgery now, not just the people who can afford it. With more doctors around to perform the surgeries, the salaries would be reduced.

Free healthcare can not happen in the US because the US has one major thing Canada and Germany do not have … PEOPLE! That’s right; the population of the US dwarfs the Canadian and German populations. Could you imagine the American waiting lists that would result from free healthcare? People would die waiting in line to get service! These other countries can do free healthcare because they don’t have as many people for whom they have to provide care.

Lastly, Americans hate to pay taxes. We don’t care what the taxes will be used for … we just hate to pay taxes! Taxes could go towards our kid’s futures and we could care less. We would weasel our way out of paying taxes as much as we could. With our avoidance of paying taxes, there is absolutely no way free healthcare could ever make its way to America!

With all that being said, is free healthcare really that great anyways? Maybe not since these countries do have waiting lists for care. They also make the residents pay for prescriptions and the emergency vehicle rides to the hospitals. So all healthcare in these countries is NOT totally free. Sounds good, but it is not all free.
