The Democratic debate held in Charleston, SC really showed the divide between those with a chance to win and no chance to win. There was not a big change in anyone's position after the debate.
First, this debate had a weird format. The questions were asked by voters instead of a big time news station moderator. The winners of the debate were Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards. These 3 were already winning before the debate and nothing happened that will ruin any of their campaigns. Viewers were encouraged to upload their YouTube videos with their critiques of the debate.
The losers were all the rest of the candidates. They might as well drop out now to avoid spending any more money. They were weak at best and the format of the debate did nothing to help their causes.
The debate format was such that there were no responses allowed from the other candidates. So whatever a candidate put out as a response was 'true' with no chance for other debaters to combat the statement. So it actually wasn't a debate, but rather a Democratic Statement. Hillary Clinton either prepared very well or had a copy of the questions before the debate. She was as cool as a cucumber during the debate. Barack stumbled once or twice, but still outperformed the weaker opponents. John Edwards needs to dumb down his vocabulary when talking to normal people. He may have given excellent answers, but who the hell knows what he was saying with all the 8 and 10 syllable words he used during his responses.
Simply put, Hillary and Barack need to start looking for VP candidates as they are going to run away with this race soon. Edwards is the only other candidate with a chance to catch either of them, but his high level, ill-timed vocabulary and $1,000 haircuts may prove to be too much for the normal voting public. |
