With the tax concessions given to Apple for the Apple farm(or is it orchard), Apple is said to bring more jobs to NC. But how many jobs, especially in relation to what the state gave up. The North Carolina House voted 81-31 in favor of a bill that offers to give Apple a tax break of up to $46 million over the next 10 years, under the premise that the company reaches a goal of $1 billion investment target within nine years. According to what was written in the associated press, it would qualify only if it locates projects one of the states many poor counties, provides adequate health insurance, meets a wage standard, and gives up other state grants or tax breaks. The preliminary vote followed heated discussion amongst lawmakers, some of which are adamantly opposed to rewriting the law just because a big business dangles the promise of more jobs and money for local communities. The state already offered Dell a $280 million tax break and Google $260 million in relief. With millions living in the state, 50 jobs here and there is not worth what the state is giving up in land and tax revenue. Some people are fooled by the idea that a tech company is coming to the state to help it turn into some sort of tech hub. This is not the case. A server farm and a marketing office, although owned by tech companies are not exactly representative of huge tech jobs coming into an area. Just because a company's name is associated with technology doesn't mean that every office they open will have loads of tech jobs or any jobs available.
