Outliving his wife and 2 of his 4 kids, Oral Roberts died today at 91.
A controversial religious figure with a huge following.
Due to complications related to pneumonia, the founder of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma had died at 91 years of age. He's most known for saying he heard the voice of God telling him to build a university while he was a young man on the way to a religious service in hopes of being cured of tuberculosis. He's also known for saying if he didn't get money for the Oral Roberts medical school program God would take his life. He built an empire based on Christian healing. He took his message to television in the 1950s, helping to found the field of televangelism. He was a very charismatic figure with a huge following. |
