Ashanti ... I had forgot about Ashanti! Where in the world has she been? Could she be the latest victim of "too much time between albums?"
Ashanti is one of those artist who should have made all the music she could back when she was really hot. She is getting older and is not as cute as she once was. Now she is forced to make grown up songs and she is not doing very well in this arena. When she could make the simple, mindless, nursery rhyme songs with Ja Rule, she was selling like crazy. Now we need more than that Ashanti! She wants to commit suicide in this song and that is just plain stupid.
Ashanti gets 2 CDs for "The Way That I Love You" out of 5 for its mindless, immature lyrics.
Not a very good album. Just another album in the record store really. I was kinda disappointed, but what can you expect from artists now? No originality so we get the same copycat music and themes.
First, thank goodness that this cd is not full of samples like the prior cds. I tried to give her a chance but I was not moved. When I first heard TWILY, I thought that it had potential. However it is too much screaming and trying to prove herself as a better vocalist than her prior years. She can turn down some of the screaming (not control) on that one. This song is performed like a high school talent competion.
Somebody must have told her “If you sing loud and hold a note for a long time, you could win” ,,,,I don’t think so. She needs to join a choir and learn some stuff. She shoud go 2-3 times a week. Then she get into a group and come out as a solo artist. Seriously it’s not a bad cd, it’s just forgetable. And what’s with the Janet Jackson freaky side impersonations? It's not about hating on her..I know what I like and it's my oppinion. I gave my cd to my sister's friend. I guess Ashanti is more popular with the tween and young audiences, that's her fan base
There are some real fans posting on here. I mean the girl is out of site out of mind right now and these fanATICS are still talking about her like she has a top selling album out. This is almost as bad as getting hyped over Mase who hasn't had anything out in a while later. You people move your faces from between Ashanti's legs
This is one of the worst reviews I have ever read, real talk. The fact that you took time out of your day to write a review and this was the end result speaks VOLUMES about your character. Lol @ "mindless" and "immature" lyrics, for a second it sounded like you were describing your review, because that is EXACTLY what this is, mindless and so very immature. GROW UP!
To all the Ashanti haters, thanx for keeping her name relevant, even though you claim she's not. We need heters so continue hating
The new song is FIRE, and so is the video, and anybody who says different must be blind/def.
Yet you STILL chose to come to an Ashanti review and comment. This had nothing to do about her live performances or dancing and blah blah. Lol she's a horrible singer live yet people STILL after 4 years STILL find themselves commenting about her and keep her name in their minds...LET IT GO. It's old already. The Declaration in stores June 3rd. Go cop it.
Ashanti can't even sing. Her live shows are HORRIBLE! She can't dance. No movement. She doesn't know if she wants to be street or upscale. She better take care of her face and her body because she sure can't claim her vocals are going to keep making money for her.
The same way songs like Love In This Club, Touch My Body, Sexy Can I...are pretty much promoting sex? Or how many songs your favorite rapper promotes gang violence? I mean chill with the hypocrisy. This song's content deals WITH REAL ISSUES. You can not sit there and say no one doesn't feel like they want to kill or hurt their boyfriend/girlfriend after they did them wrong. Matter fact the song doesn't even talk about murder and sure as hell doesn't talk about suicide. The video does...which was based on A REAL SHOW "Snapped" which is based on REAL STORIES that took place. I mean you don't have to like the song...but if some of y'all are gonna give negative comments come correct with it.
Murder or suicide ... Ashanti should not be telling all those girls that type of stuff. She is stooping to Keyshia Cole's immature level with songs like this.
I am not understanding this whole suicide thing you are alluding too..it's obivious she is contemplating murder but that's neither here or there. It's your opinion and it's all up to intrepretation.
I have a question..what songs have you heard on The Declaration that you think are hotter than "The Way That I Love You".
um, this review is wrong because you didnt even get the song or it's content right. She is singing about a guy that is cheating on her with another woman and is just using her for her money. Hence "you left your credit card receipt inside the beemer" "you left you sidekick on the nightstand and i read everything...". The vid shows her thinking about two options, leaving him or killing him. But i guess you couldn't wrap your brain around that goodday.
I like this song but it is very weak coming from Ashanti. I would expect this from some upstart little girl, but not from my girl Ashanti. I'll still buy the album for my girl, but this song is not why. Keep up the good work Ashanti and make better songs than this one.
I will have to agree with Jay Dee on this one. Suicide over love is immature! Any suicide is just stupid and wrong. Grow up. Shame on Ashanti for even putting that in a song for little girls who look up to her to listen to.
But seriously, this particular song is pretty much a space filler from Ashanti.
We will have to see how the rest of the album is. I will give you a sneak peek ... much of it is better than this song. If you are a true Ashanti fan, you will like the album. Fly by night Ashanti fans are probably lost because the album doesn't have any knock em dead songs on it.

Personally I think it is a great comeback record for Ashanti. The lyrics are deep and emotional. Not a lot of artist right their own music like Ashanti. The video is hot. It refreshing cuz a lot of videos now do not go with the song and it's like a movie. "She is getting older and is not as cute as she once was" LOL. Good one....NOT.
Wow "immature lyrics"- "I'm gonna treat you like a teddy bearYou won't wanna go nowhere"- Touch My Body. I'm not tryna knock Mimi; she didn't even write the lyrics. But Ashanti's lyrics are far from immature.
